Adelaide Zimmerman

Adelaide "Adele" Zimmerman, born January 28, 1931, the oldest of four children passed away Friday, January 15th surrounded by her family.
While studying at Loyola University for her Bachelors of Art degree in English, Adele met and married William once they both graduated. They lived in Chicago on Sedgwick until moving their growing family to West Chicago in 1957 into a small home on Elmwood. After their fourth child, they moved to their current home on Arbor Ave in 1961. Adele was always active in the community having been a member of the Turner Junction Food Co-op in the 1970's, Prairie Star Quilters Guild, a 12 year member of the St. Mary's School Board, Illinois Fox Valley Embroiders' Guild, the Illini Needler's Guild, Fox Valley PC Association, Women's Board of the Art Institute of Chicago, and DuPage Northern Illinois Birding Club. In West Chicago, she was a member of the Historical and Preservation Commission and Gardening Club. Adele researched and renovated her home on Arbor Ave leading to the receipt of Landmark status.
Once the children were grown, Adele and Bill travelled the world, enjoying exotic destinations such as Japan, Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska, South America, Ireland, Italy, and Maple Park.
Adele is survived by her loving husband William and mother of 10 proud children - Mark (Rae), Martin (Barbara), Margaret (Neill) Sorensen, Kathryn (Frank) Kozlowski, Joseph (Mary), Julia (Arnold) Fredricks, Francis (Charlotte), Walter (Christine), Peter (Kristin), and Kenneth (Sara). She was the proud grandmother to Nicholas and SPC Anthony (Jasmine) Zimmerman and Heather Brozo, John Gaudi, Martin Sorensen, Adam, Sage, and Kyle Kozlowski, Jack Zimmerman, Caitlin Fredricks, Therese and Madeleine Zimmerman, Raymond and Sarah Zimmerman, and Benjamin and Sean Zimmerman; brothers Terrance (Mary) and Brendan (Carol) Bolger. She is preceded in death by her parents Adelaide and John Bolger; brother Kenneth Bolger; daughters Lucy and Cecilia, and granddaughter Deirdre Zimmerman.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 18th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. Prayers will begin on Tuesday, January 19th at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and proceed to St. Mary's Church in West Chicago for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
