Delbert Samuel Searles, age 57, of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on January 14th 2025, in his home with loved-ones. Born on June 1st in Chicago, Delbert was a beloved son, brother, and friend who brought joy and inspiration to everyone who knew him.
Delbert entered the world as a miracle baby, weighing just 1 pound 1 ounce. He was never supposed to live. Then, when he defied the odds and survived, doctors said he wouldn’t make it past 13. When he surpassed that milestone, they predicted he wouldn’t see his late twenties. And when he did, we stopped asking. Delbert’s life was a testament to his extraordinary resilience and the power of the human spirit.
Despite being completely disabled and the youngest of his siblings, Delbert was the first to graduate high school—a remarkable achievement that highlighted his determination and the irony of his indomitable spirit.
He faced life’s challenges with unmatched courage, resilience, and a heart full of love. Despite his lifelong physical disabilities, he never let limitations define him. His bright smile, quick wit, and kind spirit touched all who crossed his path. Delbert was a source of unwavering strength and a reminder to cherish life’s simplest pleasures.
He was passionate about his friends and he found immense joy in spending time with his family, who were his greatest treasure. Delbert had a unique ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved, leaving an indelible mark on everyone’s lives.
Delbert is survived by his brother, John Searles and sister, Jana Naber (Nidal), as well as countless friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, his sisters Julia and Jenny and beloved nephew Jaffar.
A celebration of Delbert’s life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9000 S. Menard Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor his memory and reflect on the joy he brought to the world.
Delbert’s life was a testament to perseverance and love, and his memory will remain forever in our hearts. Though we grieve his loss, we find comfort in knowing he is now free, soaring with renewed strength. As he would want, we are reminded to live life to its fullest, cherish every moment, and carry his light forward.
