Dolores M. Mennecke (Heisler), age 90, of Wheaton was born on August 28, 1927 in Chicago and was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
Dolores spent most of her childhood living in Maywood. Upon graduation from Proviso High School in 1945 Dolores attended a Cadet Nursing Program through Chicago Wesley Hospital School of Nursing. She met her future husband Carl in 1945 and they were married in 1949. Her brief career as an RN ended after Carl completed his degree at U of I and they returned to Maywood. In 1955 Dee & Carl built their new home in West Chicago. There they developed life long friendships with the Gaedes, Grobes, Golcherts, and Schwirians. Dee became a full time Homemaker who devoted her talents to raising their 5 children. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Chicago since 1955 where she served on the School Board. Dee enjoyed knitting, reading, golfing, baking, and her beloved Chicago Cubs. Receiving Dee's Christmas cookie tray was a Holiday highlight for many. Dee enjoyed the yearly family vacations spent at Camp Luther in Three Lakes WI for over 50+ years. She joyfully served others as a Volunteer at DuPage County Convalescent Center for 40 years.
Dee is survived by her five children and 12 grandchildren: Diane (Steve) Nece, (Brian & David Schmitz); Dean (Suzanne) Mennecke, (Steve, Erik & Kim); Pamela (Mike) Becker, (Matt & Chris); Paula (Gary) Goforth (Phil); and Carla (Kevin) Sandon (Mike, Jimmy, Kelly, & Bethany); as well as 28 great-grandchildren, and sister-in laws Dorothy (late Robert) Bonthron, Martha (late Richard)Mennecke, and Edie (late Gordon) Heisler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edna; husband, Carl in 2013; brother Gordon, and grandchildren, Heather Goforth and twins Amy and Ryan Becker.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 3 to 8 pm at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services , 132 Fremont St. (1 block north of Washington & Main), West Chicago. A Chapel service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Visitation at 10AM and Service at 11AM. Reverend Fred Gaede officiating.
