Edward Schmitt

Edward J. Schmitt , 83, of West Chicago, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Presence McAuley Manor in Aurora. He was born June 28, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Agnes Schmitt. Ed was a Korean War Navy Veteran and member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 300 in West Chicago and was a former 15 year Trustee of the West Chicago Fire Protection District. He worked for many years as an underwriter for Crum-Forster Insurance and at St. Andrew’s Golf Course following his retirement. Ed resided in West Chicago, IL for many years and enjoyed spending his winters in Aventura, FL, with his friends, for many years.

Ed is survived by his daughter Kristine Schmitt and Michael Westphal of Aurora, IL; step-children, Robert (Lorraine) Wiggins of Huntley, IL and Kathleen J. (Luis) Velazquez of North Aurora, IL; four grandchildren, Robert Velazquez, Jamie (John) Kruse, Luis Velazquez, Jr., and Brian Wiggins; great-grandson Ryan Rodriguez; and nieces, nephews, relative and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis; second wife, Loretta; brother, Robert and sister, Carol.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 9 am until time of prayers at 12 noon at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main) West Chicago and proceed to St. Mary’s Church for Mass at 12:30 pm. Interment Private.
