Helen M. James (nee Syzdek), age 87, of Belleview, FL, formerly of West Chicago, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born on July 8, 1926 in Chicago. Helen was united in marriage on June 17, 1944 to Melvin James and resided in West Chicago from 1961 to 1988 when they retired to Florida.
She worked for many years at Spraying System having over 25 years of service. Helen had many friends, was an avid bingo player, and loved her family dearly.
She is survived by her four daughters, Patricia Dunning, Carole (George) Lamczyk, Sharon Gritt and Kathleen (Steve) Sharpness-Edwards; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister Jean Lewsader-Shapiro and nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 2006; and brothers, Ted and Eugene.
Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 4 pm until 7 pm with a short service at 6 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main) West Chicago. Private burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
