Kathleen “Kathy” Nagy (née Wintering), age 73, died peacefully on March 19, 2022 at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Naperville, IL due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Doug; her children, Dan (Sue) and Carrie (Andrew); her grandchildren, Lincoln and Charlotte; her siblings, Mark, Mike, Jim, Anne Marie and Bob; her many cousins, nieces and nephews; her family friends, Jane, Lance and Brin; and her dog and cat, Morgan and Louis. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eileen and John “Jack”; her siblings, John and Diane; her dogs, Muffy, Scotch Dancer, Sweeney, Nic of the Woods and Scooter; and her cats, John Robert Powers, Geppetto, Pasha, Sabra, Kit, Green Eyes, Missy, Max and Tommy Bahama.
The oldest of eight children, Kathy was born on September 11, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Bowling Green State University where she was a devoted sister of Delta Gamma sorority. Kathy met her husband of 51 years at BGSU and graduated in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. After moving to the Chicagoland area, “Mrs. Nagy” taught 2nd grade for four years until the birth of her children. At that time, she accepted the role of Supermom—a position she held for 48 years. In addition to proudly serving as a DuPage County Election Judge, Kathy volunteered with numerous organizations, including Watterson High School Class of 1966 Reunion Committee, Glen Ellyn District 41 PTA, Glenbard West Boosters, Chicago West Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Gamma, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #432 at St. Mary’s Church.
Her husband remembers her as the best cook and housekeeper in the world, while her son and daughter recall her as a present, strong and honest mother who always entertained a good conspiracy theory. She empowered her children with the perfect balance of academics, artistry and athletics, and she ingrained in them the importance of “please” and “thank you.” And she never asked them a question that she didn’t already know the answer to.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 25 from 3-8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont Street, in West Chicago. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 164 N. Oakwood Ave., in West Chicago, with a luncheon to follow.
