Leon C. "Lefty" Kroning, age 82, formerly of West Chicago, passed away Monday, May 04, 2009 at DuPage Convalescent Center, Wheaton, IL. He was born on July 21, 1926 in West Chicago to Ewald and Selma Kroning. Leon graduated from Wheaton Community High School in 1944. Following high school, Leon served 4 years in the US Army during WWII and then enlisted in the US Air Force for 4 more years. He was the owner of Leon C. Kroning & Sons Cement Contractor for several years.
Leon is survived by six daughters; Donna (late Michael) O'Rourke, Patti (Mike) Poole, Cyndi (Tom) Rathbun, Susie Swanson, Becky (Paul) Regnier, and Leanne Kroning, two sons; Charlie (Debra) Kroning and Tom (Colleen) Kroning, 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; Deloris (late Joe) Hitzemann, Arlene (Leon) Zarate, Shirley (Floyd) Brown, 1 brother; Bob (Dorothy) Kroning, many nieces and nephews; and former wife M. Ann (Welter) Kroning.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann L. in 2007; 3 brothers; Ken (late Bobbie) Kroning, Vern (Miriam) Kroning, Don (Bette) Kroning and 1 sister; Marlene (late Elmer) Nelson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 4 to 8 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. He will lie in state on Friday, May 8th from 9:00 AM until time of service at 10 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 125 E. Seminary, Wheaton. Rev. Joshua Genig officiating.
