Nancy M. Smith

Nancy M. Smith, age 78, longtime resident of West Chicago, passed away on February 9, 2022. She was born on September 29, 1943, in Chicago, IL to Lawrence and Vivian Rossell. Nancy served in the US Army in Washington D.C. where she met her husband, Donald Smith, at the Pentagon in 1963 and they were united in marriage in November 1966. She held 2 Bachelor’s Degrees and 2 Master’s Degree. Nancy was very active and loved being involved in the community. She worked for the Federal Government in Food National Services. Nancy served as City Clerk of West Chicago for 30 years from 1991 until the end of 2021. She signed the proclamation in 1999 with the Sister Cities. Nancy was a member and past Commander of American Legion Post 300 and member of VFW Post 6791 and Auxiliary member both of West Chicago. She was a founding board member of the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She taught art, practiced karate, and volunteered whenever she could. Nancy had a special heart for animals, especially cats. She loved her family dearly and her family loved her dearly.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Smith; children, Jeffrey (late Helen) Smith, Cynthia (David) McKrell, Norman Smith, Calvin Smith, Bryan Smith, Kimberley Jo McKrell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; half-sister, Alice Ramian; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Christopher Allen Smith, sister, Jeanne (late Doug) Dall.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 3:30 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago (One block north of Washington St. & Main St). Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to Cat Guardians, 932 E. St. Charles Rd, Lombard, IL 60148.
