Raymond "Ray" L. Eggert

Raymond L “Ray” Eggert, of St. Charles, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in Geneva, IL at the age of 94. 

Ray is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Gary M. Eggert (Diane Meier) of Sycamore and Glenn R. Eggert of St. Charles; sister-in-law Sylvia Jurians; plus, several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, friends and church family. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William; and two sisters Doris Fischbach and Shirley Reiser.

Ray was born on January 11, 1930 in Dundee, Illinois to Albert and Alice (Rogman) Eggert. He married Helen Wurtz on October 2, 1954. After moving to West Chicago, Ray began working as a sheet metal worker. The couple welcomed two children into their home and Ray set about teaching them their skills. His children remember him as a loving father who encouraged them to work hard and enjoy life. He was a dedicated individual who loved talking with people, was passionate about hard work and was a retired member of Local 265 Sheet Metal Workers. He was an active member of St. Michael’s United Church of Christ in West Chicago, American Legion Post 300 of West Chicago, St. Charles Moose lodge 1368 and past state president and Chaplin of United Commercial Travelers of America and Elgin Council 412. Ray will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main), West Chicago. Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Sue Ebersold officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray’s memory may be made to St. Michael’s United Church of Christ, 108 Sherman Street, West Chicago, IL 60185.
