Robert 'Bob' Spurny

Robert “Bob” Spurny , age 77, of West Chicago, passed away on January 26, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 20, 1944, in Berwyn, IL to Joseph and Antoinette Spurny. He was a proud member of the US Navy and Vietnam Veteran from 1964 – 1967. Bob was united in marriage on May 14, 1971, to Lynda Schwerdtman. Bob worked for many years at Packard Instruments. During late spring and early summer you could find Bob on the ball diamond coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams for the West Chicago Athletic Association. Bob also was the honorary groundskeeper of the fields at Reed Keppler Park. They were lined and set just right. Bob enjoyed baking for the community supper at St. Mark’s Church. Cooking was his greatest passion. Bob was known for making his “special” cookies for his grandchildren’s birthdays. He enjoyed watching Mel Brooks movies and reciting lines from them on a daily basis. His million dollar smile anytime his wife, children, or grandchildren walked into a room told you that family was what was most important to him and that he loved them dearly.

Bob is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Lynda Spurny; children, Geoff (Susan) Spurny, Dawn (Mark) DeMien and Justin (Michelle) Spurny; grandchildren, Troy, Brayden, Owen, Kylar, Piper and Bryce; and relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Joseph.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services , 132 Fremont St., West Chicago (One block north of Washington St. & Main St). A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment private.
