Shirley L. Woomer, age 88, longtime resident of West Chicago, passed away on February 11, 2022. She was born on January 28, 1934, in Millvale, PA to Anthony and Helen Ladish. Shirley was united in marriage on October 12, 1957, to William D. Woomer, Jr.
As a young girl, Shirley always wanted to be a secretary, and her career path took her to work as a secretary in the administrative offices for both Elementary School District 33 and Community High School District 94. She retired as the Superintendent Secretary at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago after many years of diligent work doing what she enjoyed.
Living in West Chicago reminded Shirley of the town in which she grew up. She supported the West Chicago Historical Society by baking for their fundraisers and being a guide at the Kruse House. She was even part of the committee that started the West Chicago Frosty Fest.
She would often work jigsaw puzzles, play cards and board games with the family. Shirley loved musicals whether it was a movie or on stage. She was never happier than when her family members were performing on stage. Shirley was always a supportive and loving mother and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Mary-Beth Woomer and Amy-Jo (Tim) Wierenga; grandchildren, Peter Wierenga (Dayna James), Natalie Wierenga, Joanna (Meng) Koh and Josiah Wierenga.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Woomer in 2005; and son, Sgt USMC David A. Woomer in 1989.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM at Faith Community Church, 910 Main St., West Chicago, with Reverend Rhett Austin officiating.
