Sylvia W. Lamczyk , 95, of West Chicago, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. Sylvia was just 13 days short of her 96th birthday of August 29th, 1920. Born in Chicago, the daughter of John Mikolajczyk and Anna (nee Blackowicz), she was united in marriage to George F. Lamczyk on May 25th, 1941.

Sylvia was a woman who embraced change having adapted from city life to life on a farmette in what was very rural West Chicago in 1945. Later she enjoyed a career in the office at Spraying Systems, Carol Stream. Moving to Missouri and adapting to life as a fishing enthusiast’s wife, she then returned to West Chicago and adapted to living without her husband for twenty years after his death in 1996. During that time, Sylvia adapted to near blindness having advanced macular degeneration.

Sylvia loved cooking and recipes, canning and preserving. She was an avid reader, using audio books in later life. She was passionate about religion and politics, loved current events, and pursuing a deeper spiritual understanding. She was very active in Church in her younger days and always kept motherhood as a top priority. She enjoyed laughter and a wonderful quality of life until very recently. Those that knew her are grateful for her kindness and lessons in life.

She is survived by her three children, Marcia (Thomas) Glosenger of Glendale Heights, George (late Carole) Lamczyk of Kaneville and Anne (Charles Deutsch, Jr.) MacDonald of West Chicago; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George F. Lamczyk and a dear sister, Jeannette Toth.

Visitation Monday, August 22, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services , 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. & Main Street) West Chicago. Prayers at the funeral home Tuesday August 23, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. afterwards, services will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. in celebration of her life. Interment at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
