Thomas A. Tinnes, age 81, long time resident of West Chicago, died from injuries sustained in an auto accident on July 12, 2010. He was born on August 3, 1928 in Wheaton, Illinois to Michael and Laura Tinnes. Shortly after graduating from high school, Tom served two tours of duty in Korea as a member of the US Army. He met his wife, Alice Kuhs in 1955 and they were united in marriage on October 27, 1956 at St. Irene's Church in Warrenville. Tom's life centered around church and his family. He was an active and well-loved member of St. Mary's Parish in West Chicago, attending 7:30 Mass daily and serving his church community with dedication. Tom worked over forty-five years for Karr Cleaners in West Chicago and Wheaton. He enjoyed baseball, reading, crossword puzzles, telling goofy jokes, puns and spending time with family and friends. Ever the diehard Chicago Cubs fan, his favorite motto was, "Wait 'til next year!". Tom's one true love was his wife, Alice and his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Tom is survived by his wife Alice of 53 years; one daughter; Debbie (Eric) Sandberg of Boca Raton, FL; one son; Tim (Heidi) Tinnes of Geneva, IL; five grandchildren; Kyle (Debbie), Jason and Caitlin Sandberg and Taylor and Ryan Tinnes; two brothers; Richard (Rita) Tinnes of Belin, NM and Kenneth (Charlotte) Tinnes of West Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Louise Karwoski and Berniece "Honey" Janaes and one brother; Vincent Tinnes.
Visitation is Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 2:30 to 8:00 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St. West Chicago. Prayers will be on Friday, July 16 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church followed by Interment at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
